Helping broadcasters when they need it most

Let's Start 2023 by Thanking YOU for Your Support of Broadcasters in Need Last Year

Happy New Year! We are beyond grateful for your support of the Broadcasters Foundation of America in 2022. The grants we award are critical to helping fellow broadcasters in need survive. Because of you, the BFOA awarded more than $2 million in monthly and one-time emergency grants last year, and with you on our team we can provide even more game-changing assistance in the future. Please visit our website to learn more about upcoming news and events as well as how you may support our mission. Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2023!

BFOA Events that Shaped 2022:

Byron Allen, Founder, Chairman, and CEO, Allen Media Group, was among those honored at the BFOA’s annual Leadership Breakfast at the NAB in Las Vegas. His electric acceptance speech kicked-off a series of incredible speakers, which culminated with former U.S. Senator Gordon Smith accepting the Lowry Mays Excellence in Broadcasting Award. Katz Media Group, the nation’s largest media sales organization, raised more than $47,000 for the Broadcasters Foundation during its 12th annual company-wide membership drive in November, bringing the total amount raised by Katz to nearly $450,000 since the drive’s inception. Those funds helped pay $2 million in monthly and emergency grants in 2022. Full story is here.

Over 270 radio and television broadcasters gathered at the Plaza Hotel in New York City last March to honor Hilton H. Howell, Jr., Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Gray Television and Atlantic American Corporation, with the 2022 Golden Mike Award and Lesley Visser, the first woman sportscaster to report on all major sporting events, with the 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award. With your help and support of less fortunate co-workers across the broadcast industry, our inaugural Radio and TV Giving Days raised a combined $60k. “We need to make sure everyone working in radio and tv stations across America is aware of what we do,” said Tim McCarthy, President of the Broadcasters Foundation. “It’s a tragedy to think that one of our colleagues in need might qualify for aid but doesn’t know about us. Second annual events are being planned for 2023.

Former BFOA President Jim Thompson was posthumously inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in November. Thompson passed away last August after a lengthy battle with cancer. His unwavering dedication and commitment to the Foundation continues to drive the BFOA team to help those in need. Full story is here.
