Over the last couple of weeks, there has been a plethora of natural disasters striking multiple areas across the United States.
Blizzards: Across the Northeast and throughout the Midwest, there have been two giant snowstorms leaving up to thirty inches of snow in some areas. Power has been lost in homes, pipes burst, and heating systems collapsed for many who reside in these areas.
Tornadoes: Uncontrollable tornadoes have been prevalent in the Midwest, affecting areas in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Buildings and houses have been destroyed, and towns were left with large amounts of debris to clean up after due to the excessive winds.
Wildfires: New wildfires have swept across the Florida Everglades and several counties in Oklahoma. The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag warning, encouraging individuals who reside in affected counties to stay inside to mitigate exposure to the polluted air. Homes have been reduced to ashes and individuals are left in critical condition as a result of excess smoke inhalation, and injury from the fire.
All over the country, our broadcast colleagues have been on the scene to keep their communities informed, despite personally facing injury, destruction, and uncertainty from these extreme weather phenomena. Always know, the BFOA is here to help broadcasters impacted by these these unexpected weather conditions.
