Dusty Street worked in radio for over 35 years. She was a quintessential “Rock Jock” on the air in Los Angeles and around the country. But as the industry changed and stations changed formats, she was struggling to find work and keep her medical benefits. To make matters worse, she had to undergo several spinal surgeries and, while Medicare was available, her portion of the medical payments was overwhelming. That’s when Dusty applied for and began to receive a monthly financial grant from the Broadcasters Foundation of America.
